Truly, Madly, Deeply In Love With Marc Jacobs

Two weeks ago was New York Fashion Week, my favorite week of the entire year, and I was lucky enough to tag along to both Marc Jacobs shows with my godmother!!
At Marc by Marc the energy was high as the first model came down the runway in a mod mini dress paired with a beret, sunglasses, black tights, and Jacobs' version of the combat boot. While sticking with mostly a palette of dark blue, black, and grey, there was an occasional yellow, pink, red, and even green plaid. I would have loved to have been a model in this show. The energy, the clothes, the music, everything was amazing!! And to the surprise of the audience MJ is now donning midnight blue hair, which looks really good and works...who knew?

This look is definitely my favorite look of the entire collection. The fluorescent bag with the coat is genius.
At the end of the show I got to go backstage with my godmother where she said hello to Marc and he kissed her on the cheek and said "You're the bomb". Then she introduced me and in the moment of excitement I got a kiss on the cheek too!!! I have to admit, not only was I flipping out, but I nearly didn't wash my face that night.

After much pinching and blinking, I finally realized I was at the Marc Jacobs show. There was no better way to have ended NY Fashion Week than with this show. If you took the energy from the Marc by Marc show and multiply it by the absolute highest number you can think of and you'll get the energy of the Marc Jacobs show. Only 17 minutes after the call time of 7pm Sonic Youth struck the first note of "Jams Run Free". Cabaret seating and huge, high stage served as the runway. Behind was a screen projecting a mix of images crossed by a single scaffolding. Since the Marc Jacobs show is never an ordinary runway show, the models lined up on the scaffolding instead of all coming out at the end.

The collection itself consisted of clean cut pieces, great sweaters coats and colors ended with crazy gowns in pastel velvets and metallics. All paired with either brightly colored hats, metal chokers, feather hair pieces, and other sorts of head - things.

A True Genius

Nicolas Ghesquiere is truly amazing. His lines for Balenciaga are always the most impressive. Fall '07's collection became the basis of most trends and his Spring '08 collection is doing the same. The collection for spring, though seemingly unwearable, is one of my favorites. His use of patterns, particularly florals, great shapes and incredible detail paired with gladiator heels was incredible. To me, his collections are the most exciting and creative, I always look forward to seeing what's next from Ghesquiere!

New Favorites

Yesterday my best friend and I headed down to Soho to do a little last minute Christmas shopping. While down there, I discovered my two new favorite stores:
1. Anna Sui. There you'll find eclectic interior design and clothes wise, great accessories, t-shirts, tights, socks, etc as well as Sui's RTW line. I picked up a great t-shirt, pair of socks, and pair of tights, and for my sister I got an adorable necklace.
Go There:
113 Greene Street btw W Houston and Prince.

2. Kirna Zabete. At Kirna Zabete they carry mostly designer lines such as Balenciaga, Proenza Schouler, and Lanvin, which isn't exactly ideal unless you have the budget, but the place itself is fantastic and you can count on picking up some sweets, and adorable trinkets, among other things. It's design is very modern and chic, as well as European. Here I got an adorable Key Chain for both my sister and a box of Chocolate Bar chocolates for my sister.

P.S. If you're interested, their having a sale on Lanvin ballet flats!

Lately I've Found Myself...

Loving the minimalistic designs of Alexander Wang. In my opinion his collections are basic simple shapes re-designed in a fresh and modern way.
Some of my favorites from his Spring '08 Collection:

Plaid

I have to admit, I do love the lumberjack plaid

A is for Agyness

Agyness Deyn is a great face in fashion. Her look is reminiscent of both Twiggy and Edie with her own twist making her a true original! Also, her eclectic style is funky and chic at the same time. I love her!

Fashion Week Part II

I'm so sorry this has taken me so long to put up. I've just been working like crazy on school work.
The second show I went to was Zac Posen. His collection was inspired by shakers and the great plains. Cathy Horn of the New York Times hated it but I loved it! It was beautiful! He mixed neutral colors with fluorescent yellows, turquoises and purples. Dresses in these colors, and others, were embellished with beautiful detail.
Some of my favorite looks:

Then there was a break in the music and five models in cloud inspired dresses came down the runway. The dresses, like the rest, had exquisite detail.

Fashion Week

This year I was lucky enough to attend two shows during fashion week here in New York! It was the best day! At the show, I met some of my favorite people in fashion like, Johnson Hartig, and my idol Carine Roitfeld! The first show I went to was Rodarte, which has been named the best collection shown in New York. Laura and Kate Mulleavy did a beyond amazing job with the collection. They really are an amazing pair and the most incredible thing is that they are both self - taught, they learned to sew and design by reading old books on the subject! The collection was a fantastic mixture of dreamlike meets fairy tale princess dresses with amazing detail and great separates in great shapes and materials ironically paired with stilettos embellished with metal studs or zippers. It was so free spirited and inspiring. I loved it!

And just when you thought the show was over two men in black suits came out and opened the doors to the freight elevator and standing inside were three models in beautiful evening gowns! It was incredible!

P.S.
I was standing outside waiting to meet the person I was going to the show with and I met and had my picture taken by The Sartorialist!! I was in shock the rest of the day, it was amazing to meet him because I adore his blog and work for style.com and I think the looks he finds are so inspiring!

Lola Faturoti

Lola Faturoti, pictured below, is a great up and coming designer. I discovered her advertising some looks from her line in the east village today!

She had five models standing on the back of a truck that was parked on the Bowery. They changed there position every minute or so in order for the passers by to get a good look at the clothes. A great way to advertise I think! Faturoti has put together colors, fabrics, and shapes in a wonderful and fresh way! Her Spring Summer '08 collection is a great mixture of eclectic colors and favorite shapes! I love it!!
